BRUNO, BRUNOT, BUELL, BULL, GERKEN, MEINECKE, MORROW, PETRIMOULX, SCHROEDER, SCHULTZ posted by Robert Frei on Thursday, September 10, 1998

In 1865 Henry and Angeline GERKEN brought their young family from Germany to Bridgeport. Henry died in 1870 when a tree fell on him while he was clearing his land. Their children and grandchildren remain in the area. Many of the related families have been in the Bridgeport area from the earliest days. The BRUNO family was among the very first settlers of Saginaw. Their family homestead was on the spot where the Saginaw city hall now sits. An 1891 newspaper article says that their only neighbors were the indians. Antoine MORROW was born in Canada in 1844 and came to Bridgeport, where, in 1872 he married Rose BRUNO. I am looking for any information on the ancestors, siblings and descendents of these people. I know that there are many pictures, portraits, letters, Bible records, notes, family records and personal stories from these families around Saginaw and Bridgeport. Any document which mentions any of these people may hold key information. More information is available at: http://www.bob.frei.com

MAHER, MCDONALD, MCELGUNN, MCGUNN, PRESTON, RYAN posted by Bob Nichols on Saturday, September 26, 1998

Seek information about parents and origin of John RYAN [1827-1865] and his wife, Ellen (MAHER) RYAN, who came to E. Saginaw circa 1855 probably from Tipperary Co., IRE. Their children, all born in E. Saginaw, were Agnes Sophia, Anna Cecilia, John William, Mary Ellen, and Joseph. John RYAN probably was the brother of Joanna RYAN who married Martin MANNION (both of E. Saginaw) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bay City in 1856. If so, his parents were James RYAN and Margaret DOLAN of IRE.

MAHER, MCDONALD, MCELGUNN, MCGUNN, PRESTON, RYAN posted by Bob Nichols on Saturday, September 26, 1998

Am interested in chatting with anyone researching the surnames of MCELGUNN and its variant, MCGUNN. Particularly interested in the parents and native origin of Charles Patrick MCELGUNN [1846-1926] of E. Saginaw who came to Ontario, then to Saginaw, circa 1856 with his siblings and mother. His parents were Hugh MCELGUNN and Mary ATWELL of Fermanagh, IRE but of townland unknown.

ZUHN posted by Clarence Earnhart on Monday, September 28, 1998

I am an experienced genealogist, but not a professional one. I have been researching the surname ZUHN for 15 years, so have examined many sources of data. "I have stalled out." Perhaps you can help me. Here is the story. My ZUHN ancestors came from Loitz, Grimmen, Vorpommern, Prussia around 1850 [1835-1860]. The first record of MY ZUHN ancestors in the US that I have is May 1856 which I found in the records of the Historic Trinity Church in Detroit. I found nother early record of my ancestors in the Detroit area,1860 census. I found the first presence of a John Zuhn [who I believe might be directly related to me] in the Detroit City Directory of 1856/57 and of 1859. (I have searched all Detroit City Directories.) I have encountered scattered info of the presence of the surname ZUHN [not readily identified as MY LINE] in other Michigan records. For example witnesses at an 1858 baptism at the St. John Lutheran Church of Saginaw; data was on-line. I strongly suspect that my ZUHNS came to the Saginaw Bay and/or the Detroit area from their port of immigration, which I do not know. Many immigrants landed in NYC in the 1850 time period. The trail of my Zuhns COULD have been NYC, Hudson River, Erie Canal, and Lake Steamer to Saginaw Bay and/or Detroit. I just don't know. I have examined a number [but not all] of the common Passenger & Immigration indexes. I found several Zuhns there, but none of them seem to be related to me. As you undoubtedly know, the data is sparse for records of immigrants to NY in the 1850 time period. I have not yet searched for NY Passenger Arrivals in the Mormon FHC Catalog film/fiche beginning with # 0002246 [1820-1897.] There are many, many pages of film to search here! I have pretty good records of what I have searched for and found or not found; and could provide them to you. I can also send you family group sheets, trees, register reports, etc. The package would be rather thick! So my question to you is can you help me? Can you work on the areas that I have not covered? Perhaps confirm or expand some of my research? Thank you,
