BLAIR, KING, SOVA posted by Jennifer Blair on Sunday, March 14, 1999

I am researching the surnames BLAIR, SOVA, and KING. My g-g-grandfather was Emery BLAIR. However, it is believed that Emery was more of a nickname and that his real name sounded like a girl's name, possibly Marion or Murile. Other records have indicated that his name may be David or Fred. Because of this confusion, my research has been difficult. Emery married Ellen SOVA about 1870 in Ontario, Canada. Some of their children were born in Canada and some were born in Saginaw. It is believed they came to Michigan about 1876. Their children are: Edward, Ellen, Fred David (my g-grandfather), Martha Lula, Josephine, Oscar, Emery Frederick, Felia Zilda, and Alzini. Birth and death dates are available for several of them. Fred David married Maria KING, whose family also lived in Saginaw. Her parents were George KING and Adelaide LAUNDRY. Their children include: George, Laura, Louis, Louise, Joseph, William, Matilda, John, Daniel, Salina, Thedore, Frederick, Maria Ann, Patrick, and Rose. Most of these children were born and lived around Carrollton, Michigan. Any information regarding BLAIR, SOVA, or KING would be of great help.

JOHNSTON posted by Nancy Havermann on Wednesday, March 17, 1999

John Gideon JOHNSTON was born 1829 in Roscommon, Ireland, immigrated in 1845, joined the Michigan 5th Volunteers, Co. K in Saginaw, MI. Roster gives his name as Johnson, age as 52 rather than 32. Following the Civil War he settled in northeast Missouri. Family rumor says he had a sister and brother who also immigrated, and possibly remained in Michigan. I would like to contact their descendents. Thanks!

GILLIE, GORMAN posted by Kevin O'Brien on Thursday, March 25, 1999

I'm seeking any information about Mary "Molly" Gorman, a rather colorful woman from Merrill/Hemlock areas. She used to live in a large white house next to the Case Family Funeral Home in Merrill. Mary Gillie was some relation to Wilfred G. Shannon, I believe an aunt or cousin. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Both of these Mary's spent their entire lives in Saginaw and/or Genesee County, Michigan.

BLAIR, KING, LAUNDRY, LEROY, SOVA posted by Jennifer Blair on Thursday, March 25, 1999

Many of my ancestors resided in Saginaw County. I am mostly working on the BLAIR side of my family. My great grandfather was Fred David BLAIR, b. 4-25-1875 in Canada, d. 12-29-1927 in Middlefield, Ohio. He married Maria KING December 8, 1903 in Saginaw. She was born 3-5-1882 in Carrollton, Michigan and d. 7-27-1964 in California. It is believed that Fred's father was Marion BLAIR (although not sure of this), but went by Emory. His mother was Ellen SOVA, b.12-25-1854 in Canada. Fred's siblings include: Alzini, Ellen, Oscar, Josephine, Ernest, Felia, and Martha. Fred and Maria's children include: Donelda, Alfred, Eva, Sterling, Harold, Lawrence (my grandfather), and Elizabeth. Maria's parents were George KING and Adelaide LAUNDRY. Her siblings include: George Frederick, Laura, Louis, Louise, Joseph, William, Matilda, John, Daniel, Selina, Thedore, Frederick, and Patrick. All were born in Carrollton, Saginaw Co., Michigan. My grandmother recalled the name LEROY but cannot place it. She believes that LEROY is French for KING and that my ancestors changed it when they came to Michigan from Canada. I have many birth and death dates for many of the ancestors listed in this query. I am looking for more information regarding Marion (Emory) BLAIR. It is believed that he disappeared around 1899 or 1900, but I cannot find any information on him. Any connection to these lines would be helpful. I would be happy to share any information that I have.

GRAY, YOUNG posted by M Franklin on Saturday, March 27, 1999

I am trying to find Marion Springs in Saginaw County. I can not find it! According to my Grandmother's birth certificate it existed in 1902. That is where she and her father (William Gray) were born. Her mother Dianna Young Gray died, and is supposedly buried there. She is who I am trying to find. She died giving birth to twins, who also died, in 1910 or 1911.

KING, LEROI posted by Bob Nichols on Saturday, March 27, 1999

My great uncle was Alexander Charles (Al) KING who was born in Saginaw on March 4, 1890. He was the seventh of nine children of French-Canadian immigrants Edward Roy KING and Mary Herminia (Minnie) JULIAN. Edward Roy KING's name, originally, was Elscar LeROI. You are correct in supposing that KING is the Americanized version of the French surname "LeROI."
