Mary E. (Phelps) Perry Chaffee

MRS MARY E. (PHELPS) PERRY CHAFFEE

1850-1916

Mrs. Mary E. CHAFFEE, wife of Edwin E. CHAFFEE, died at her home in Dayton after a long and painful illness on Feb 18, 1916. Aged 65 years, 10 months and 17 days.

Her maiden name was Mary E. PHELPS. She was born in West Bayham, Canada on April 1st, 1850. In 1869 she was united in marriage to James R. PERRY. To this union four children were born; Nelson W. of Detroit, Asa E. of Saginaw, Freeman c. of Owosso, and Nora R. of Clifford, all of whom survive her. Later she was again united in marriage to Edwin E. CHAFFEE. To this union was born three children, Altha who died in infancy, and Edwin and Ada at home.

Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her loss an aged mother, five brothers and three sisters.

She was converted when a girl and joined the Free Baptist Church of which she was a member at the time of her death. She was devoted wife and mother, and a kind and loving neighbor and will greatly be missed by all.

The funeral services were held at the Dayton Center Baptist Church on Monday, Feb 21, 1916, conducted by Rev S.J. SLOUGH. The intermnet was in West Dayton Cemetery.
