1902 TUSCOLA COUNTY 

                   GILFORD TOWNSHIP




     Mr. Whipple was born in Franklin County, New York, January 13, 1841.   Moved to Macomb County, Michigan, with his parents, and lived there twenty years, then located in Gilford Township.  He enlisted in Company D, Twenty-third Michigan Infantry, August 2, 1862, and remained in the service until July 20, 1865.  He returned to his farm, married Mary A. Ward.  She was born April 11, 1865.  They were married May 11, 1882.   Children born to them, seven, Jasper L., born March 9, 1883; Austin M., born March 3, 1885; Elva D., born January 27, 1888; Jessie M., born March 20, 1889; Floyd H., July 6, 1891; Fern M., born January 6, 1898; Clare D., born February 4, 1901.


      William Leander Whipple and his brother Levi W Whipple also moved with their parents Jonathan and Lucinda Whipple to Tuscola County.  Jonathan and Lucinda both died in Gilford, Michigan.  Levi W Whipple was b April 1, 1826 Chateaugay, NY and d Apr 1, 1921 Ellington, Michigan.  He married Dorcas S Lyon 1873 in Michigan.  Dorcas Lyon was born May 12, 1842 Milford, Oakland, Michigan and d Oct 24, 1911 Ellington, Michigan.  They are both buried in Ellington Twsp Cemetery.  They had the following children:  Adelia, Lucinda, Polly, Levi M, Myrtle and Rosetta Whipple.  Levi M Whipple is also buried in Ellington Twsp Cemetery.
