Freeland - Named for Mama Freeland who's tavern the lumberman and river drivers went to. The post office name was changed to Freeland in 1879 and the town had a railroad station. Jay - Post office name in 1867 for the settlement of Loretta. Later moved to Freeland. Loretta - Settlement with the a post office named Jay in 1867. The post office was moved to the settlement of Tittabawassee (later named Freeland) . Tittabawassee - The first name of Freeland with a post office in 1856. |
