SPAULDING. (also spelled Spalding in older records)
A township of Saginaw county, on the east side of the Saginaw River. It contains the village of "Salina," and along the river bank several extensive salt works and steam saw mills.
Entry from: Michigan state gazetteer and business directory for 1863/1864, embracing historical and descriptive sketches of all the cities, towns and villages throughout the state.

Salina - Absorbed by the City of Saginaw in 1873. Laid out by William Gallagher after the discovery of salt, thus the name Salina in 1860.  The post office was  later named Spaulding and then appropriately South Saginaw, which it is still sometimes called today.

South Saginaw - See Salina above.
