Supply of Single Men Exhausted, Says Draft Board

Isabella County Times-News, Thursday, March 25, 1943

Week’s Contingent of 35 Men Runs Out Last of Available Unmarried

Isabella county contributed another 35 men to the Armed Forces during the past week.  Thirty-two of the men were inducted into the Army while three qualified for the marine Corps and were sent to San Diego, California for boot training.  Of the Army contingent, two qualified for limited service only.

Thirty of the men left Mt. Pleasant Tuesday morning, enroute to Fort Custer where they were to report for active duty.  The group consisted mostly of those men in the teen-age bracket.  However, there were eight married men in the quota.  Selective Service officials say this “just about cleans up Isabella’s available single men”.  Another call this month is expected to exhaust the supply.
