ROSES FOR THE LIVING

                                                       George Pridgeon

                                                (transcribed by: L. Johnson)

The picture you are looking at is that of a pioneer of Sherman township, a man who has

the respect of the community, and whose opinions always carry weight.

George Pridgeon was born in California township, Branch county, Mich., Aug. 15, 1859.

He came to Sherman township in 1879.  On May 7, 1882, he was united in marriage to

Addie E. McAllister, and in that year a home was built on section 19, where they lived until

1895;  then they homesteaded 80 acres directly across the county line in Mecosta county,

on section 24 of Sheridan township.  Mr. and Mrs. Pridgeon lived there till 1916, selling

their farm a year later and moving to Weidman Nov. 20, 1917, where they purchased the

George Fisher property.  Mr. Pridgeon retired from active work in the fall of 1933.  Few

men have done active work in their advanced years as has Mr. Pridgeon.

He is conservative in politics, and believes that more can be done by hard work and

individual planning than can be accomplished by political panaceas.  He has never failed

to vote dry, or boost for the betterment of schools.

We hope to be favored by Mr. Pridgeon’s presence and kindly advice for many years.
