ROSES FOR THE LIVING 

              

                                                            Fred Bartlett

      It isn’t necessary for us to introduce the gentleman whose likeness you see above.

Perhaps no man is better known to more people in this vicinity than Fred Bartlett.

     We are told that he was born on a farm near Jackson, Mich., in 1876, that he

attended elementary school there and high school in Eaton Rapids; that he taught country

schools for several years.

     For a time he was employed by Toledo Traction Company as conductor at Toledo.

Returning to Jackson, he with his father and brother went into the candy business, making

Bartlett’s Hand Cut Chocolate Creams.  Fred looked after the sales of this produce and

traveled on the road as the company’s salesman.

     In 1904 he came north and to Sherman Township and has lived here every since.  He is

now engaged in buying and selling potatoes and operates a large potato warehouse and

storage. 

     In 1895 he married Miss Fannie Perrine.  They have one son, Larue Bartlett, who lives

In Chicago.

     Fred’s genial personality, his pleasant and happy disposition have made him a very

popular business man and real asset to our community.
