Isabella’s Second December Group to Camp Grant

Twenty-four Enlisted Reservists, First Isabellans Sent to Illinois Center

   Isabella county’s second contingent of Enlisted Reservists for December left Tuesday noon for Camp Grant, Illinois.  This is the county’s first group of selectees to report to the Illinois reception center, previously all inductees have been forwarded to Fort Custer.  William R. Fortino was in charge of the group of 24 men who left.

 

   Fifteen of the youths were from Mt. Pleasant; four were from Rosebush; two from Shepherd; and one each from Lake, Weidman and Coleman.

 

   The Mt. Pleasant men are: Fortino, William F. Corbin, Edward M. Kornexl, Marion A. Ludwig, Frank M. Malosek, Roy E. Jodway, Thomas W. Pelcher, Albert L. Courtney, Calvin C. Moore, Merlin W. Crouch, Durward E. Warner, Charles J. Weese, Norman L. Kyser, Albert S. Neyome and Walter A. Wing.

 

   Those from Rosebush are: Stanley J. Zawacki, Harold D. Johnston, Donald E. Anderson, and LaVern Baker.  Shepherd was represented by John R. Laidley and Earl T. Woodruff.

 

   Others of the contingent were: William H. Estes, of Lake; Charley L. Johnston of Weidman; and John R. Mester of Coleman.  The latter is the sixth son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mester to report for active duty in the United States Army.
