Isabella Sends 14 More Youths to Armed Forces

Four Go to Navy…

Ten Men Qualify for Army

 

   Isabella county was credited with 14 more men in the Armed Forces during the past week: four of the men going to the Navy while the other 10 qualified for the Army.

 

   A small contingent of five men left Mt. Pleasant last week reporting for active duty at Fort Custer.  They were headed by Delbert Lockwood, Alternate Acting Corporal.  Leslie Karr, scheduled to be in charge of the group was given an additional 14-day furlough the day before entrainment.

 

   The group consisted of:

 

   Lockwood, 1605 West Lyons, Mt. Pleasant; William Thomas, R4, Mt. Pleasant; Elton Carmen Wood, R1, Shepherd; John Edmund Hills, 507 E. Michigan, Mt. pleasant; and John Guerrero, R2, Weidman.  The latter reservist was ordered to report at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

 

   The day previous four Isabella county youths assigned to the navy were ordered to report.  They were:

 

   Gerald Patrick McNerney, 610 E. Illinois street, Mt. Pleasant; Paul John Gross, Weidman; Floyd J. Jackson, 1002 E. Chippewa, Mt. Pleasant; and Boulton Welsh, a transfer from the Gladwin county board.

 

   Selectees credited to this county but inducted through other boards during the week were:

 

   Lloyd Franklin Pearce, Flint; Fowlar J. Hopkins, Ionia; Gregorio N. Morin and Conception P. Bustamente, San Antonio, Texas.
