12 Men Leave for Fort Custer

Another Contingent to Leave This Month

 

   Another contingent of Isabella county men left this week for active duty in the armed forces.  It was the first of two such groups scheduled to leave during the month of December.  Of the 16 men who reported at Fort Custer this week, 12 were qualified for general military service, while four others were classed in the limited service group.

 

   Robert L. Rosselit, of Shepherd was the acting corporal in charge of the 15 men who left Tuesday.  The group consisted of the following men:

 

   Donal J. Campbell, Mt. Pleasant, Rosselit, Mearl Fetters, Clare; Bernard L. Roberts, Ashley; Richard A. Smith Clare; Eugenio Sanchez, Mt. Pleasant; George T. Dickerson, Shepherd; Donald N. Lorenz, Mt. Pleasant; Lawrence R. Sumner, Shepherd; Robert H. Campbell, Rosebush; Max Stebelton, Clare; Edison Pelcher, Mt. Pleasant; Edsel Pelcher, Mt. Pleasant; Leslie H. Shawegan, Mt. Pleasant;

and Harry Collins, Mt. Pleasant.  The latter four youths were all volunteer Indians.

 

   Those of the contingent who will serve in a limited service capacity in the army are Donal and Robert Campbell, Rosselit and Richard Smith.

 

   Monday, Herbert Sleet, of Weidman, went direct to Fort Custer, reporting for active duty.  Sleet is the fourth colored youth from this county to qualify for military service.
