                                                FIRE DEPARTMENT

 

     The Fire Department met for the first time and organized a company Aug. 15th, 1871, in Council Room, S.A. Plummer, Foreman, Excelsior Company; M. W. Brock 1st Ass’t Foreman, Horace p Warfield 2d Ass. C. J. Rouech, Foreman Hose, 1st Ass’t Geo Hannon, 2d Ass’t Wm. Green.  Henry H Alpin, Sec’y; Wm. Swart, Treas; Lafayette Roundsville, Eng’r; A. Lawrence Fireman.  A new engine was received in Sept., cost $4,500, out of $6,500 raised for the Department.

 

                                                CHURCHES

 

     The Methodist Episcopal Church is located on the west side of Center, between Moore and Elizabeth streets. Rev. W. Q Burnett, Pastor.

     The Presbyterian Church is located on the west side of Catherine, between John and Jane streets, Rev. S. W. Chapman, Pastor.

 

                                                SCHOOL  

 

     The Union School Building is located upon one square between John and Jane streets, and State and Center Street.

 

                                                SECRET SOCIETY

 

     Wenona Lodge F. & A. M., No. 256.---Masonic hall in Babo block, cor. Midland and Lin streets.

     Regular communication first Tuesday evening on or before full moon of each month.  Specials intervening.
